Trauma, Mental Health, DBT, and UDL: Universally-Designed Mental Health Programming for the K-12 Classroom

This session is intended as either a stand-alone or follow-up to the proposed Ted Talk on mental health. Following a double suicide at a local high school, I facilitated a team of psychiatrists, SEL experts, counselors, teachers, and school leaders in a discussion about processes for healing, and preventive future programming to build resiliency and distress tolerance in students. In this session, the program developed in collaboration with the team as a result of this discussion and which is just now beginning to be implemented in schools, will be shared.

Dr. Katz received her PhD in 2008 from the University of British Columbia. She is the author of Teaching to Diversity: The Three Block Model of UDL and Resource Teacher: A Changing Role in the Three-Block Model of UDL.
