Designing for Learning Program: Faculty Reflections and Reported Outcomes

The University of Vermont's Designing for Learning Program is a unique collaboration between the College of Arts and Sciences, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Writing in the Disciplines Program on campus. We use a cohort model to guide faculty in redesigning their courses with the lens of Universal Design for Learning in collaboration with backwards course design. Faculty attend a series of five workshops to learn about Universal Design for Learning and backwards course design. The following semester, each faculty member has a teaching observation by a CTL staff member who guides them through the existing UDL components of their teaching, and identifies places for improvement.
