At Teach For All, we have the unique opportunity to learn with educators, communities, and organizations from 40 countries through our Global Learning Lab. Though we all know – and studies in neuroscience prove -- that there is no average learner, we find overwhelmingly that the education systems in which we operate were largely built for certain children who learn in certain ways as members of the majority group. Meanwhile, children with less privileged identities (race, class, ability, language and culture, gender, learner profile, preferences etc.) have, at best, only been considered marginally in the design of those education systems. If we grew up in these systems, how do we break these patterns? In this quick ‘trip around the world,’ we will take a look at what we are learning from our best teachers and learning environments where education is being reimagined to put students on a path to self-determined broader outcomes.
